IVF Pretreatment Evaluation
Initial Consultation
- At the time of your initial consultation, a detailed history will be taken and
all medical records reviewed.
- Our physicians will decide if you are ready to proceed with treatment and plan
your first treatment cycle.
- Any preliminary tests that have not been completed
will be performed or scheduled according to your menstrual cycle.
- A date for a "trial transfer" utilizing the embryo transfer catheter will be set. This procedure
allows us to measure the angle and depth of your uterus and to anticipate potential
problems with embryo transfer. The procedure is done in the office with little, if
any, discomfort.
- A date for obtaining a semen specimen for cryopreservation as a
back-up during the treatment cycle will be established. This minimizes the problem
of collection difficulty or poor specimen quality due to illness on the day of retrieval.
- The month that IVF will occur will be scheduled.
- Consents for the IVF program will be reviewed and signed with the Doctor which you are
working with.
- The office manager will meet with you to discuss insurance and payment procedures.
Prior to the Treatment Cycle
During the month preceding the treatment cycle, a number of preparations should be made:
- The husband and wife will both be treated with Doxycycline for 10 days. Please inform the
nurse if either partner is allergic to this medication so another medication can be substituted.
- Injection teaching should be scheduled with both husband and wife and/or person who
will be giving the injections.
- Optimal health is desirable for preparing for an attempt at establishing a pregnancy. Both partners should
avoid excessive alcohol, recreational and non prescription drugs and smoking.
- IVF patients must be available from cycle day 2 of the treatment until approximately cycle day 14.
- Financial arrangements should be completed.
