Suzanne Degelos, Ph. D., the Center’s full-time Laboratory Director, and David Hickman, M.S., Embryologist, have the training and experience to take into account sperm morphology (form and structure) during the sperm selection process and use specialized equipment in in-vitro fertilization. Dr. Degelos is an andrologist by training and education. She focuses much of her attention on the male factor side of IVF, which she states is controllable with ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) whereas egg quality is controlled by many different factors such as patient diagnosis, stimulation response, estradiol (Estrogen) levels, etc.

Dr. Degelos knows from research she participated in that embryo quality can be affected by sperm quality. She and Embryologist David Hickman are strict in their semen analysis evaluation so The Center’s physicians can make good sound judgments for the patients IVF/ICSI protocol. This also allows them to schedule the proper amount of time for sperm selection.

Mr. Hickman is an expert in embryo and egg cyopreservation. He has perfected his vitrification procedure to produce an 80% survival rate on embryos with a 50% pregnancy rate.

In addition to critical sperm evaluation for ICSI, the laboratory team is extensively trained in Assisted Hatching (mainly used in older patients and poor quality embryos), Embryo Cryopreservation and Blastomere Biopsy for Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD), donor egg and gestational surrogacy.

The Center operates its own on-site, certified embryology laboratory facilities. The Center is the only fertility clinic in the area with a full-time Ph.D. and M.S. embryologist dedicated to working with the physicians and nurses to help patients achieve high success rates. The Center’s embryologists are fully trained in assisted reproductive technologies including Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection, assisted hatching, egg and embryo cryoprservation and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. They provide instruction in embryology that helps couples understand their roles in the process and how to carry them out and are available to answer questions.

George T. Koulianos M.D. and George B. Inge M.D. personally design and manage Individual Treatment Plans for each patient using the appropriate, least invasive and least expensive treatments first. They coordinate treatment and progress with referring physicians through reports and other updates so referring physicians can provide the best support to their patients.

Specially-trained, experienced fertility treatment nurses provide follow-up on Individual Treatment Plans. Our physicians have years of experience with thousands of patients in regulating treatment pharmaceuticals. They attend and present at training seminars worldwide. They operate the largest comprehensive reproductive medicine program in the region and one of the few with full-time embryologists and our own certified embryology laboratory. Dr. Koulianos founded The Center in 1993. Dr. Inge joined The Center in 2002.
